The Christian Comedy Show

Host Tom Padovano has been performing stand-up comedy and writing comedic material used by such funny people as Phyllis Diller, Rodney Dangerfield, and Joan Rivers for almost 30 years now. He has also appeared on a number of cable comedy shows as well as writing humorous stories for publications as diverse as Beckett’s Baseball Card Monthly and Cracked Magazine.

According to one of his contemporaries, he is “so funny that you will laugh until you stop”, which accounts for his longevity in a business where a lot of talent disappears from the scene nearly as quickly as a Tonight Show monologue. Which, by the way, Tom has written many jokes for as well over the years. He claims to have met backstage with Joan Rivers at the Tonight Show three times, even once with her consent!

Padovano swims against the current trends in stand-up comedy by keeping his act free of profanity and he finds a way to make the audience laugh with his offbeat take on current issues, including cell phone ring tones, as well as getting a great deal of his best material directly from the Bible. His self-depreciating style is energetic, positive, and is easy for most people to relate to. And, since his style is not “preachy” he is able to connect with Christians and non-believers alike to share a good laugh or two.

In addition to his weekly Radio Blog he keeps himself busy, and his wits sharp, with a hectic schedule of live appearances in comedy clubs, churches, and even local YMCAs in and around his native New York City.

Ancient Streams

As if the explosion of slick haired, fast-talking televangelists preaching non-stop on the television weren’t enough to save our eternal souls, Blog Talk has over 200 “radiovangelists” available to choose from.

So whether your preferred method of drawing closer to your God is through subjecting your naughty self to a pulpit pounding, hellfire and damnation preacher or to one of the silky smooth disciples of the “name it and claim it” doctrine you will have plenty of choices.

However, if you want to exposure yourself to some well researched and fully thought out Bible exposition, specifically on the topic of prophecy, Ancient Streams might be a helpful balm for your soul and provide some solid food for your brain as well.

Host Ronda Rocco doesn’t try to push her interpretation of the Bible nor her view of how God works through such circumstances of modern life as the 9-11 tragedy into your awareness, rather she takes a very low key and reasoned approach to explaining her understanding of how God handles His business in the chaotic world of today.

Her focus is on taking the Bible at face value and not reading too much into what is written there beyond a basic “taking God at his word” approach. Which is a very refreshing change of pace in a time when many other Bible thumpers of various faiths are so adept at turning the words written for ministry into a profit-making machine that support the minister’s personal beliefs and invariably lead their followers to the conclusion that the only way to get to heaven is to send the preacher some money.

You won’t find any “new” revelations on Ancient Streams, just a calm, peaceful, and peace-inducing view of the best-selling book of all time and how the words relate to our lives today.

Jay Kolo of “Morning’s Remorse”

Sometimes the most important topics are not the easiest. Jay Kolo of BlogTalkRadio’s “Morning’s Remorse” knows this firsthand, but he doesn’t let the severity of the issue get in the way of delivering his message to the world: sobriety is the most important aspect of living a life worthy of the love of God.

Eleven years ago, Kolo was homeless and an alcoholic. Since then, he has taken those eleven years and dedicated them to inspiring other people to get sober and take control of their lives with the help of Jesus Christ. He has made himself an example to others of how everyone can change their lives if they put their minds to it.

Kolo has written four books, and two more and due out this year. The first, Terminal Game, centered around a man who realizes how much he’s messed up his life while in the middle of an airport terminal. He finds the Lord and comes to the realization that he needs to fix things. Knee Deep in Prayer is a Chicken Soup-style collection of short stories and poems that are meant to inspire those attempting to find sobriety. Knee Deep II (Stages of Destruction) was released a year after the first, and is a collection of original poetry by Kolo that shows every facet of what addiction can do to your mind, body, and soul.

The two books due out later this year are Corporate Tears and Moving Iron, both novels about middle-aged people dealing with their vices and realizing God’s presence in their lives.
