Mommy Talk

Sure, being a mom means dealing with wailing, foot stomping, and the occasional boo-boo, but being a mom also means being responsible and understanding all the latest news and ideas. “Mommy Talk” radio show is another talk show about moms, but this one actually brings current events to the blog talk scene – with a mommy only twist, that is.

The host of “Mommy Talk,” Jeanie, has a whole slew of wonderful guest spotlights, radio show regulars, and some very hard hitting topics to conquer on her radio show. Jeanie has talked with moms that are dealing with childhood leukemia, she has talked with moms that are battling depression, and she has even gained a few laughs as listeners heard the strange tales of a woman who works in the ER. Though all of Jeanie’s guests are funny, and most incite quite a few calls, the most popular guest on the “Mommy Talk” show is the “cooking guru” Rachel.

Rachel offers listeners yummy, easy, fast, recipes that are easily put together in a cinch. Since Rachel has a fairly regular spot on the “Mommy Talk” show, listeners know what to expect when Rachel is to be the main guest. If you want to hear some wonderful cooking tips, hints, tricks, and – of course – fabulous desserts and dishes, you must not miss any morning with Rachel.

Whether you are a mom to be, or whether you already have a few children to tend to, “Mommy Talk” will help make your life as a mommy just a bit easier. Tune into the “Mommy Talk” radio show every Friday at 11 PM Eastern Standard Time in order to hear Jeanine turn on the mom-centric charm.

Mommy's Getaway

A mother's work is never done. But the "Mommy's Getaway" radio show is here to help.

The show is a natural extension of the Mommy's Getaway blog (www.mommysgetaway.com), which was created to give mothers the answers and support they need, providing them with informative articles, helpful parenting tips, fresh recipes, and a community all their own.

Tamara Pruessner, the creator of the Mommy's Getaway blog, hosts the radio show, bringing her own personal experiences as a mother of two children to each and every 60-minute broadcast. A native of Tuscon, Arizona, Tamara's goal is to help mothers deal with the daunting pressures of raising children and juggling a professional and personal life. Tamara hopes mothers working together and sharing their own personal stories and parenting philosophies will improve everyone's outlook, the power of the group increasing the strength of the individual.

Recent "Mommy's Getaway" broadcasts have run the gamut, tackling such serious topics as spousal abuse and domestic violence to more pleasing aspects of motherhood like recipes for homemade baby food and discovering relaxing hobbies to relieve daily stress. Tamara also interviewed Jennifer Laycock of the Lactivist Blog, discussing Lactivisim and the unique issues facing breastfeeding mothers.

Upcoming shows of "Mommy's Getaway" will feature discussions on how celebrities and their poor fashion choices influence young girls and how to select your own proper working attire. On August 25, author Sandy Jones will also visit to talk her and her daughter Marcie's new book, "Great Expectations: Baby's First Year."

"Mommy's Getaway" can be heard live every Saturday at 5PM EST.

Home Schooling 101

With the deteriorating level of education being provided by our public school system there has been a huge surge in the numbers of concerned parents who are choosing home schooling for their children. The reasons for the increase in home schooling are numerous and include not only the physical danger that kids attending public schools face today or the overall lower test scores that are being recorded on college entrance exams such as the SAT, but also the fact that studies show that in a 6 hour school day an average child can expect to receive less than 10 minutes of individual instruction as teachers are forced to deal with larger classes and must devote additional time per student to the kids who are causing problems.

There is a wealth of information about home schooling available today via the Internet and local community groups but nothing takes the place of getting the straight facts from someone who has been there and done that. Evan Miller is just such a person. She is a mother of six who has home schooled all of her children with three having graduated and three still in school.

Starting with the basics of how to set up your curriculum and schedule for your child’s grade level and moving along to developing that curriculum in the most cost-effective way, to how to deal with issues such as ensuring that your student learns appropriate socialization skills and specific methods to teach classes such as math, Mrs. Miller is a pleasant and knowledgeable resource.

By bringing in qualified guests to assist with a particular topic Miller provides an excellent starting point for those who want to start home schooling or can use some additional information and tools to provide a more effective and personalized learning environment for their family.

Role Mommy

Yvette Corporon and Beth Feldman met in 1998 when they were both working in the entertainment business; Yvette was a news producer and Beth a publicist. Over the years, the two friends have become mothers, having two children each, and have learned the unique sometimes overwhelming burden of mixing parenthood with a professional career. Seeing each other juggle the various personal and business demands, Yvette and Beth realized they were each other's role model or, more precisely, role mommy. A great idea was born.

Hoping to help themselves and other mothers through the trying times, Yvette and Beth started RoleMommy.com, a parenting web site based on experience and not supposed expert advice. While the site offers parenting news and an assortment of other valuable info and resources, its main purpose is to help mothers, and even fathers, make it through each day, providing a friendly place to gather and exchange parenting experiences and humorous mishaps about balancing a family and career. Yvette and Beth have even created a line of clothing and jewelry perfect for Role Mommies everywhere, with T-shirts boasting such slogans as "Bedtime Is for Babies," "I Need a Playdate," and "I Don't Do Cupcakes!"

A natural addition to the successful web site, the "Role Mommy" radio show continues the noble work, providing busy parents with funny stories and parenting tips from celebrities, authors, and everyday working men and women. And don't forget to check out Yvette and Beth's new book, "Peeing in Peace: Tales and Tips for Type-A Moms."

Preschool Rock Moms

Preschool can be a trying time for children and mothers alike, but "Preschool Rock Moms" is here to help.

Hosts Stacey Lloyd and Joanna Young are themselves mothers, filling the half-hour radio show with lessons learned through their personal experiences in parenting. Lloyd, aside from raising a teenager and preschooler of her own, is also the CEO of SchoolRock, Inc and the Executive Editor of PreschoolRock.com, a web site where parents can find creative ways to share time, educate, and entertain their preschool-aged children. Young is a mother of four and the Associate Editor of PreschoolRock.com where she also serves as the Holiday Crafts writer and the Oklahoma City Correspondent. All the shows are broadcast live, allowing listeners to interact and call in with their own questions or comments. Listeners can also win prizes during "Pick Jake's Brain," the program's companion game show in which people try and guess how many general knowledge questions a preschooler will answer correctly.

Army Wife Talk Radio

Army Wife Talk Radio on BlogTalkRadio is making waves throughout the listener base. The weekly one-hour show is produced by Tara Crooks and deals with the issues military wives face every day.

Crooks is a freelance writer and “military mom expert” who has been successful in personal business ventures as well as in raising her children. She started Army Wife Talk Radio in March of 2005 after being inspired by Kelly McCausey’s “Shoestring Radio.” Crooks, who recently celebrated her ten-year anniversary with her husband, prides herself on being able to motivate and educate people in their everyday lives.

Army Wife Talk Radio exists as a support group for all military wives. The show covers a multitude of topics surrounding family life, coping, and parenting. Most of all, it helps other military wives through stressful times and reminds them just how much of a sacrifice they and their husbands are making. It reminds them that love prevails even over hardship.

There are other contributors to Army Wife Talk Radio besides Crooks. Star Henderson, who is in charge of the online newsletter, has degrees in both Scientific and Technical Writing, as well as a masters in Professional Counseling, which she hopes to use to counsel military families. Sheryl Kurland is the marriage counselor on the show, having written a book about what makes relationships work. Her experience came from a massive project of interviewing couples who have been married for more than fifty years. Dr. Karen DeBord is the parenting expert, having graduated from Virginia Tech with a Bachelor of Science and Ph. D. in Family and Child Development.
